Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port plant is celebrating 60 years of manufacturing this year ahead of its £100 million transformation into producing battery-electric vehicles.

The plant opened in 1962 with the production of the Vauxhall Viva. A total of 5.2 million vehicles have rolled off its production lines since then including all generations of the Astra.

Production of the final seventh generation Astra came to an end on the 6th of April 2022. The last Astra to roll off the production line was an Sport Tourer SRI Nav 1.2 Turbo in Hot Red.

Work will now start to transform Ellesmere Port into an electric vehicle manufacturing centre, with vehicle production scheduled to start in early 2023.
