Audi have launched their new SQ5 TDI which will be available in 2 versions – The SQ5 and the SQ5 Vorsprung. Both models will be powered by a 3.0 litre V6 TDI engine that produces 347PS and 700 Nm of torque. This is thanks to its electrically powered compressor, turbo and 48 V mild hybrid system.

The electrically powered compressor assists the turbo whenever the exhaust gas flow is not enough to drive the turbo.  This means there will be instance power with no turbo lag.

Audi claim that the new MHEV system (mild hybrid electric vehicle) in the new Audi SQ5 TDI can reduce real-world fuel consumption by as much as 0.7 litres per 62 miles.  It uses a belt alternator-starter (BAS) connected to the crankshaft.  When deceleration, it will recover up to 12 kW of energy.  The electrical energy is then stored in the lithium-ion battery where it is then used to power the non essential electrical systems in the vehicle.
