VW have announced a new factory order only Performance Pack upgrade for the new Golf R DSG.

It still has the same 310 PS 2.0-litre TSI engine but has its top speed derestricted. Top speed is now 166 mph for the hatch and 168 mph for the estate. It will also come with: 19 inch Spielberg alloy wheels, a roof spoiler which produces an extra 20 kg of downforce (hatchback only) and R-Performance braking system. The main Performance Pack feature in my eyes is the “R-Performance” brake system.

This new R-Performance brake system has a built pin disc which has an aluminium brake pot with a cast steel friction ring. This is all joined to the brake pot with cast pins.  The main benefit of this braking system is that if you are on a racing track or working the brakes hard on the road, this system allows the heat to leave the disc and pads more efficiency aiding longevity and less “cooking of the brakes”.

There is also a weight saving of 2 kg compared to the normal Golf R braking system.

The R-Performance package is priced at £2,300.00

Another optional extra that is sold separate from the Performance Pack is the Akrapovič titanium sports exhaust system available for the Golf R hatchback.

It has round tail pipes and valve control which results in a better exhaust sound.

The valve control system works injunction with the Golf’s R Driving modes: Eco, Normal and Race.

This Akrapovič titanium sports exhaust system is priced at £2,975.00

Golf R prices start from £32,710 on the road

Golf R Estate DSG prices start from £35,700 on the road.
