Since its launch back in 2014, the BMW i8 has been the world’s best selling hybrid sports car and now you can buy it as a Roadster.
Prices start from £124,730 and it will be on sale in January 2018.
The new electric fabric roof can be opened or closed at speeds up to 31 mph. The roof only takes 16 seconds to be fully opened or closed.
In both the i8 Coupe and Roadster, the i8’s lithium-ion battery cell capacity has been increased from 20 to 34AH. BMW have also increased the peak power output to 143hp which is a increase of 12hp.
This means that the i8 Coupe can drive up to 34 miles and the Roadster 33 miles with no emissions.
The turbo charged 1.5 litre 3 cylinder engine which produces 231 bhp has now been fitted with a particulate to catch and filter the “nasty stuff” from the exhaust gases.
With the electric motor and the engine working together the i8 now produces 374 hp.
The i8 Coupe:
- 4.4 seconds 0 to 62 mph
- 155 mph (electronically limited)
The i8 Roadster:
- 4.6 seconds 0 to 62 mph
- 144 mph (electronically limited)
