New figures by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that March new car registrations fell by -14.3%.

A total of 243,479 new cars were registered last month – which is the weakest March since 1998.

The decline in new car registrations is due to the ongoing issues with semiconductors and supply chain shortages.

Battery electric vehicles continue their growth with 39,315 registered last month.
