No your eyes are not deceiving you. For the first time ever Ford have added this the Fiesta ST 5 door to its line up.

So apart from having 5 doors it has a 1.6 litre EcoBoost petrol engine that produces 182PS and 240Nm of torque. 0-62 mph takes 6.9 seconds, 46.3 mpg and produces 141g/km of CO2 emissions.

Prices start from £19,495 for us in the UK and for that you will get 17 inch alloys, rear diffuser, Recaro seats with “ST” logo.

“Ford has now sold more than 38,000 Fiesta STs in Europe since we introduced the acclaimed hot hatchback in 2013, and growing numbers of customers have been asking us for a five-door version. “The Fiesta ST with five doors makes an affordable Ford Performance driving experience accessible to an even greater number of customers.”

Said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford of Europe.

Ford reckon that the 5 door Fiesta ST will account for 25 per cent of all Fiesta ST sales in Europe. We will have to wait and see.

Personally I think that small “hot hatches” should be 3 doors. Think Peugeot 205 GTI, Renault Clio Cup 172,182.197 not forgetting the Williams version Mk1. I could carry on………..Back in the day they were the bench mark. Today we have just to name a few the Vauxhall Corsa VXR, the forgotten Fiat Punto Abarth Evo and Seat Cupra.

Maybe Ford are watching what Renault have done with the new Clio RS, (which is only available with 5 doors) and it hasn’t harmed the brand. Also the Polo GTI is available in both 3 and 5 door but I can’t recall seeing too many of them on the road.

Time will tell. I just hope that Ford doesn’t phase out the 3 door “hot hatch”.
