The international collector car auction market has softened somewhat but the UK modern classic cars continue their upward trend, according to Hagerty UK’s indices. These show that turbocharged hot hatches in particular continue to be very good news. Examples include excellent condition Ford Escort RS Turbo Mk 3’s, values have risen by 23% . Prices of the Renault 5 GT Turbo have increased by 7.5% and the iconic original Mk 1 Volkswagen Golf GTI 1.6 litre is up by 6%.

The number of older cars shipped from the UK to the US fell to a six year low, down 14% compared with last year. I am guessing maybe something to do with US tariffs?

They report that the most shipped older car from the UK to America remained the Land Rover which accounts for 24.8% of older cars exported to the US.

2025 has, in general, been an extension of what we saw in late 2024, the boom times of the post-Covid era are now firmly over, buyers are being much more careful with their money and, as a consequence, nearly 80 percent of values have either dropped or remained static. That said, delve a little deeper and certain areas emerge as hotspots, both up and down.

Said John Mayhead, Editor of the Hagerty UK Price Guide.

I previously reported that Gordon Murray Special Vehicles S1 LM sold in Las Vegas for £15.7m ($20.63m) in November and that a one off build 2025 Ferrari Daytona SP3 auctioned by RM Sotheby’s sold for £19.9M ($26m).
