The New Mercedes Benz E Class

Here are the official pictures of the new E-Class saloon. Order books will open soon for deliveries in May 2016.

The E-class has grown, its wheelbase has increased by 65 millimetres, and its length by 43 millimetres. With the use of aluminium and steel the new E-Class is around 100kg lighter than its predecessor.

Mercedes say that this new car is the “most intelligent business saloon” and it is packed with a load of computer tech to help improve your driving experience and safety.

Mercedes state this car is the first to incorporate a touch sensitive control buttons on the steering wheel. The buttons will respond to horizontal and vertical swiping movements like a smart phone. This will allow the driver to use the infotainment system in the car and not take their hands off the steering wheel. Another refined feature is the Active Lane-change Assistant which Mercedes say “which allows the driver to steer into the selected lane as if by magic”.

This car comes with many optional extras. These 3 optional extras stand out for me;

The 12.3 inch high-resolution display that shows the speedo, rev counter and Sat nav. This wide screen display can be configured to “Classic, Sport and Progressive” and has the effect of being floating behind the steering wheel.

Remote Parking Pilot. This will allow the car to be manoeuvre in and out of garages and parking spaces remotely using the driver’s smartphone.

Digital Vehicle Key. This enables your mobile phone to be used as a vehicle key.

The interior lighting is lit with LED bulbs and have 64 different colour possibilities for you to choose from.

The new E-Class will come to the UK with a all new diesel engine, the E220 d.

More models will arrive in the UK, like the eagerly anticipated E350 e. This is a Plug-In Hybrid, it has an electric motor and a 4 cylinder petrol engine, together they produce 279 hp. This will be available in late 2016.

All models will come as standard with the 9 speed automatic gearbox (9G-Tronic), LED headlights and PRE-SAFE Sound. PRE-SAFE Sound is a short interference signal through the cars radio speakers activating a natural aural reflex called the stapedius reflex. This can possibility reduce the damage to your ears if you were unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident in this car.

So far I like what I see. This car is packed with so much tech. From the pictures it looks like a cross between a new S-class and a new C-class. With styling ingredients like this they couldn’t go wrong?….. Some may say its styling is safe, I will say wait until you see it for real……. you may like it. Mercedes Benz have sold over 11 million E-classes worldwide and with the addition of this new model, they will sell a lot more.
