I think so……..More is less!!

I will explain why below:

A soon as I saw this car at the Geneva motorshow, I fell in love with how it looks.

So what is the new Porsche 911R?

It is a limited edition model that has an overall weight of only 1,370 kg. This makes it the lightest version of the (991) 911 models.

Developed in the motorsport workshop, the 911R is a cross between the 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 RS.  It uses the 4.0 litre 6 cylinder non turbo engine but has a 6 speed manual gearbox. Music to my ears!

The lightweight body panels, glass and the chassis originate from the 911 GT3.

Gone is the huge rear spoiler in favour of the normal 911 rear engine lid with a retractable spolier. Underneath is a rear underbody diffuser specific to the 911R model that provides the downforce. The front apron comes from the 911 GT3.

Inside there are 2 carbon bucket seats with fabric centre parts in Pepita tartan cloth, a nod back to the first 1960’s 911. No rear seats.

An “R-specific” GT sport steering wheel with a diameter of 360 millimetres. An R-specific short gearshift lever and, I like this bit, pull straps as door openers. (It’s all about saving weight).

All 911 R’s will have an aluminium badge on the passengers side to remind you just how limited the 911R really is.

It does not have a roll cage inside and if you want a radio inside you will have to ask for it.

We Blog Any thoughts……………

I predict in years to come people will be stripping out their normal (991) 911 Carrera’s changing brakes, upgrading suspensions, engines, clutches and fly wheels to try and replicate this awesome car. Maybe it could be you or I doing that? If it’s me I’ll write a blog about it because a limited run of 991 units will sell quickly making this car hard to come by. To me this is the ultimate and best looking 911 since the 993! Why?……..Because it looks less fussy than a Turbo or GT3 but picks all the best bits from its brothers and sisters.

“Porsche you’ve hit the nail on its head with this one”.
